Overview

Our two-day teens cookery toolbox is the ultimate crash course for any budding young chef looking to improve their cooking and build a rounded kitchen skillset. It’s a fun, action-packed two days of cooking in the company of our expert Leiths teachers and likeminded foodies, where you’ll cook your way through a host of delicious recipes and learn some real skills in the kitchen.

You’ll cover breadmaking, baking, knife skills, egg cookery, preserving and jam making and working with herbs and spices. By the end of the two days, you’ll be cooking like a young masterchef with plenty of food to take home and show off to friends and family.  We are constantly changing our menus on this course so teenagers can return and learn more skills in our kitchens. Below is an example of a menu done in the past.

This class is suitable for young people aged 11 – 17.

Menu:

Day 1

  • Teriyaki chicken skewers
  • Miso roasted aubergine
  • Tahini smashed cucumbers
  • Raspberry and white chocolate blondies

Day 2

  • Chilli & cheese bean burgers with sesame seed burger buns
  • Chimichurri mayonnaise and potato wedges
  • Lemonade scones with raspberry jam

Menu may be subject to change

Course Structure

Cooking with your classmates is an integral part of your Leiths experience. You will cook some of your recipes in pairs, and some independently. Whatever the ratio, there is always more than enough food to go around, and often food to take home too.

Your day will comprise of a mixture of practical cookery and demonstrations performed by the teacher who is running the session. The exact format will vary from class to class depending on the style of cuisine and, in the case of visiting chefs, their individual teaching style.

Around 1pm, you will break for lunch and enjoy the dishes you have cooked with the rest of your class, accompanied by refreshments. In some classes, such as skills classes, where dishes may not be appropriate for lunch, a mezze lunch will be provided.
