Life Skills Cookery Courses
Leiths Academy Kitchen
An innovative ‘cook-along’ approach to teaching cookery.

Course Info
This adaptable and flexible digital cookery resource is suitable for a wide range of schools, scenarios and settings, particularly where there are no cooking facilities or a specialist cookery teacher. Suitable for KS3 cookery lessons, cookery clubs and Duke of Edinburgh Skills; PSHE cookery, end of term activities and transition sessions.
If you are looking to introduce cookery into your school for the first time or are looking to update a tired set of cookery resources, Leiths Academy Kitchen will revitalise your curriculum. It is a tried and tested interactive digital cookery programme which allows students to engage safely at school, home or in the community via their mobile, tablet or laptop.
Each six-session cookery course is delivered via step-by-step cookery videos led by Leiths teachers. All recipes are designed to be made within one hour either by an individual student working independently, or a pair of students working together. Students can start cooking without needing to watch a demonstration beforehand as they ‘cook-along’ with the Leiths teacher, step by step throughout the session. Learners of all ages enjoy working independently and at their own pace and teachers are free to support students who need it most. Teachers tell us it has changed the way they deliver cookery and that they would not go back to the traditional ‘dem and cook’ approach. Students tell us it feels like they have their own personal tutor to guide them every step of the way.
Leiths Academy Kitchen includes all the recipes and resources required to deliver the programme with ease. The recipes are designed to appeal to young people and families, with recipe adaptations for special dietary requirements. All students receive their own certificate on completion of the course.
Example dishes include Thai sweet potato soup, cheesy bean burgers and peach crumble cupcakes.
Leiths Academy Kitchen has been designed to be flexible. It can be delivered both on and off timetable (or a combination of both), and over as many 6 week blocks as you require to suit your individual requirements.
How does it work?
Each video led cookery session is taught by an experienced Leiths teacher. Every session is accompanied by costed and allergen assessed recipes, scalable shopping lists and instructions of how to prepare the ingredients and set up the equipment. Leiths Academy Kitchen can be accessed by students via a web-based link or QR code on a phone, tablet or laptop with an accompanying lead adult for support. The lead adult need not be a specialist food teacher or even a qualified teacher as the digital platform delivers the whole session from start to finish.
