Overview

Great food photography has the power to tell stories. Join seasoned food photographer Charlie Richards for this two-day photography workshop and learn how to produce showstopping food shots from set up through to edit. 

Designed for those using a professional camera, this is course is a comprehensive, deep dive into the technical aspects of food photography. You’ll cover camera basics including aperture, shutter speed and ISO as well as lighting, composition, styling techniques and post-production edit. Throughout the two days, you’ll have plenty of time to put your learning into practice as you curate and photograph different foods and set ups, experimenting with different lighting and textures. 

By the end of the course, you’ll have a well-rounded knowledge of food photography and some beautiful food shots for your portfolio. 

This course is suitable for anyone with a digital camera and laptop with Photoshop Elements 11 or equivalent picture editing software.

Your Teacher

Charlie Richards is an independent photographer specialising in food and drink, shooting for a wide range of editorial, PR and marketing, packaging, design and advertising clients, from Waitrose to Good Housekeeping. You can view Charlie’s work and client list at charlierichards.com.

Course Structure

Your day will comprise of a mixture of hands-on photography, demonstrations and teaching tutorials. 

Around 1pm of each day, you will break for a mezze lunch provided by Leiths with the rest of your class, accompanied by a glass of wine or other refreshments. 

Practicalities

What’s included:

  • All ingredients provided and weighed out for you in advance
  • Lunch of your own making or sharing platters prepared by the school, with wine or other refreshments
  • We do the washing up

 

What to bring:

  • A digital camera
  • Flat soled shoes
  • Long trousers and a long-sleeved top are advisable

We are happy to make adjustments where possible. However, some classes are unsuitable for people with particular intolerances as the menu would need to be completely different.
