Description

The Ginger Pig is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and creative Deli Chef to join the team at Askew Road.
Alongside much loved classics, made at a central production kitchen, there is a changing selection of freshly prepared deli dishes and a variety of lunches cooked in the shop every day. As this is a customer facing role, you’ll also enjoy chatting to customers, serving from the deli counter and sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for the food you make and sell.
For this role, passion, creativity and drive are just as important as experience. Professional kitchen experience is welcome, but not essential. You could be a recent Leiths graduate, a career changer looking to build a future in hospitality, or someone with kitchen experience looking for more creative input. A passion for food is a must.

You will be keen to make the role your own, using your initiative and bringing new ideas to the deli. If there’s a particular cut of meat that needs using, you'll to turn it into a great lunch special or deli dish. Equally, if you think a new salad or dish would work well, you are encouraged to test it out. Ideas beyond the day to day menu are also welcomed, whether that’s a small wine tasting or another way to bring something new to the shop.

You’ll work closely with the shop manager and butchery team, as well as the social media and wider development teams, creating dishes around seasonal moments and key food dates, from a special burger for National Burger Day to ideas using seasonal produce. There is plenty of opportunity to learn, take on more responsibility and progress quickly for the right person.

● A genuine passion for food and cooking
● Creative, curious and full of ideas
● Happy working some weekends
● Motivated, reliable and organised
● Enjoys customer service and working with people
● Confident using initiative and keen to learn
● An interest in meat, seasonal produce and food trends
● Happy to work closely with the shop manager, butchery team and wider business
● Comfortable being filmed for social media is a plus
● Professional kitchen experience is welcome, but not essential
● An interest in wine and food pairing is a bonus

Hours
This is a daytime role, working five days a week, including some weekends.
