Craig Morrison is a food content creator with over half a million Instagram followers. He shares the lessons and decisions that  have shaped his career across both days.

Cover the food styling and the filming

From plate composition, food styling and videography to recipe development, hashtag strategy and audience targeting, with context on the wider shift from traditional publishing to content creation.

Start your portfolio

On the second day you cook, style and shoot your own dishes, guided by a specialist in food videography. You leave with a portfolio of images and video and the skills to keep creating independently.

About the Food Media course

Content

In this course, you will cover the fundamentals of food media. From styling, to filming to how to hashtag. On Day 1, you’ll have a demonstration from Craig Morrison on content strategies, point of view and filming techniques. Then you’ll put what you’ve learnt into practice in the kitchen.

Example recipes you’ll cook:

  • Lime Herb & Crispy Tofu Noodle Salad
  • Hummus with Crispy Chickpeas & Tahini Flatbreads

On Day 2, you’ll learn about the art of food styling and editing for social media. You’ll also learn about publishing and be able to ask questions during an open Q&A with Craig.

Preparation

You do not need to prepare anything as such, but please see below on what you’ll need to bring and what’s included.

Timings

Arrival: From 9:30am

Class begins: 10:00am (please arrive in good time so you’re ready to start promptly at 10am)

Lunch: Please bring your own lunch, although you are welcome to eat anything you cook, where appropriate.

Day ends: 4:00pm

What’s included:

  • Ingredients provided and weighed out for you in advance
  • What you cook is yours to take home

What to bring:

  • Your smartphone, a notebook and pen
  • Containers to take food home
  • A refillable water bottle and lunch (there are also plenty of local cafes and shops)

What to wear:

  • Please wear long trousers and a long-sleeved top
  • Closed-toed, flat-soled shoes

No prior experience is required. The course suits anyone looking to create and grow their own food content, whether for a personal account, a business or a wider career in food media.

Day 1 covers the creative and technical foundations: plate composition, food styling, motion capture and videography, recipe development for social media, and hashtag strategy and audience targeting, with context on the shift from traditional publishing to content creation. Day 2 puts this into practice as you cook, style and shoot your own dishes.

A portfolio of images and video shot during the course, along with the skills and confidence to continue creating independently.
