A private household chef is employed by a single household; their responsibilities are to plan, prepare and present gourmet meals on a daily basis. An important aspect of the role is catering to the specific dietary needs and preferences of the household. This includes managing grocery shopping, planning menus, and maintaining a high standard of kitchen hygiene within the home.
Some household chefs may be expected to work alongside another private chef and may be required to work at private events and prepare food for special occasions hosted within the residence. This is a demanding role that requires individuals to be hands-on at every moment.
The work-life balance can vary for every private chef, as they can ultimately decide what hours and jobs are best suited to their schedule. Full-time work can be very demanding, with some private chefs working up to 6 days a week with 12-hour shifts at times. Whilst part-time workers may experience similar hours, but for 1 or 2 days of the week instead. In some instances, private chefs may be asked to live-in, staying on the property for an extended period to ensure the household is catered to at all times.
