What is the role of a corporate staff caterer?

As effectively the private chef to a particular organisation, in this role you’ll be responsible for writing menus to the taste of the employees, catering to specific dietary requirements, meeting specific timings when the team break for lunch and preparing food that suits a working environment.

You will likely have a kitchen on site and ensure the dining room is in good order before service. In some cases, you may be required to prepare dishes for a catered event, making sure that all of the corporate culinary expectations are met.

Whether you’re working on your own or in a team, you’ll need to keep up to date with kitchen due diligence and maintain a neat and tidy workspace, which could be in close proximity to the company offices.

This role tends to be more structured, with individuals working Monday through to Friday, 9-5. The perks of this role include a considerable amount of creative autonomy, seeing the faces of your customers and a favourable work-life balance.

What skills are needed to be a corporate staff caterer?

There is a range of skills a person needs to become a corporate, directors’ dining room, private chef, of which include:

  • Infusing creativity and passion into their culinary approach, especially when developing new menus
  • Confidence in navigating and maintaining a kitchen
  • Proficient knife skills
  • Able to abide by safety and hygiene regulations, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness for themselves and the kitchen
  • Excellent communicator, especially when working with larger teams
  • Outstanding organisation and management skills (on timing and checking consistency of food quality)

What salary does a corporate staff caterer earn?

The salary a corporate chef will earn will depend on the workplace and the level of responsibilities they undertake. Individuals in this role can earn anywhere between £35,000 and £40,000.
