A food broadcaster’s role specialises in food, culture and storytelling through radio and podcasts. Their responsibility in this role can vary depending on the type of content they help to create, but most typically they’re there to entertain, educate and provide an expert voice for the culinary industry.
An individual in this industry could be expected to lead demonstrations, participate in industry discussions, or help to shape the kind of content that is created from behind the scenes. The tasks will vary from person to person and no day is guaranteed to be the same.
This role is best suited to individuals who are passionate and highly motivated to create something beyond the plate. They need both the skills and enthusiasm to be able to confidently and successfully emerge into this career path.

Matt Tebbutt is a television food presenter best known for presenting shows such as BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped, Drop Down Menu, and the Good Food channel’s Market Kitchen. Before this, Matt worked in restaurants for years, starting with a traineeship with Marco Pierre White immediately after graduating from Leiths. He then moved to the kitchens of Chez Bruce, followed by a stint at Clarke’s, where he learned the art of bread-making.
He returned to Wales in 2001 after an absence of eight years and, with his wife Lisa, has transformed the former Foxhunter pub at Nantyderry into an acclaimed restaurant, winning AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales in 2004. Matt worked for Alastair Little longer than anyone else and learnt his ethos of using great ingredients, cooked simply.
A food stylist’s job is to help create mouthwatering images that make a dish look irresistible. Having a professional cooking qualification is essential, as you need to know how to cook everything from pastry to a joint of meat and have the technical knowledge to problem solve if things go wrong.

The home economist is the cook behind the camera, prepping food, consulting with guest chefs and ensuring everything is organised and ready for them to cook on the show.
A Food Photographer captures high-quality images of food for restaurants, brands, cookbooks, social media, and marketing materials. They style dishes, set up lighting, and use photography techniques to make food look appealing. They may work with chefs, food stylists, and content creators to produce eye-catching visuals that enhance food presentation.
